Starting your own beauty business
In any crisis there can be opportunities. Some people may have thought about starting their own beauty business and coming out of lockdown could be that perfect opportunity.
Having your own beauty business can be very rewarding especially if beauty is a passion of yours and you can do a job you love
So how would you do this?
Think about starting your own beauty business and what treatments you may well want to offer.
Then work out how much this may cost and where the money will come from to set up the business.
Also where the business will run from. Do you need premises or would you rent a space or go mobile.
What type of equipment will you need. As well as your beauty training courses and the cost of those, there are other expenses, such as beauty products and couches/furniture, as well as insurance maybe flyers business cards and a website to advertise your beauty business.
What will you call the business.
You would need a name for the business and need to think about this in terms of what services you will be offering.
Try to plan 2-5 years ahead and also think about what other beauty services you may add on going forward, as this could impact the name of the business.
Can you get the domain name to match your business name for your website if you are having a website.
The name could also be used for your social media business pages as well.
Gaining beauty clients
This can take a while and it is best to bear that in mind. Will you need to carry on with your existing job as well at first whilst you build your new beauty business and get recommendations via word of mouth.
Once you start building your clients you need to keep them
This as well as doing a very good job is having the correct pricing for your area. This does not have to be the cheapest, as long as the service is excellent and the surroundings very clean and the staff friendly but polite.
Products
Decide what beauty product ranges you will go with, as this too can sometimes affect your pricing strategy if you decide to use higher end brands for your beauty treatments you would need to charge more.
This can be advertised in your marketing about the quality of your products and services.
Insurance
You would need to be insured for the beauty treatments you would be offering and make sure your clients are aware you are fully and correctly insured.
With our beauty courses you can get the correct insurance as our beauty training is accredited.
If you are renting a space are you covered on the salons insurance or do you need your own.
Do you need any licences for the premises such as microblading. You can check with relevant authorities about this
If you are self employed you would need to register with HMRC
It is important to keep good financial records for your tax and national insurance but also customer and treatment records so that you can market new services to your customers and if you have a claim against you, the information is there to help in any defence you may need.
I was employed for 20 years and I have been self employed for over 20 years. Guess which is best, but do not think it is easy, it can be harder work and / or longer hours.
Sometimes people do well very quickly but normally it takes a while to build up customers and a good reputation, so keep up your efforts, your standards, your spirit and determination.
