DIY at home nails

With the issue of nails salons being shut due to the Coronavirus many are doing their own nails at home.

This can be risky if you don’t know what you are doing and potentially nails can be damaged.

Outgrown gel polish can look unsightly. You have a few choices with gel nail polish.

You could apply regular nail varnish over the top to hide the re growth on the natural nail or remove the gel nail polish.

For this you would have to gently buff the natural nail first to remove the shine and seal for the gel top coat.

Soak foil pads in acetone.

Wrap one pad around each finger and make sure the acetone is on the nail plate.

Wait about 5 minutes and remove the pad. The gel polish should easily be able to be gently eased off using a cuticle hoof stick.

Apply cuticle oil to re hydrate the skin.

You can file your natural nails after removal as they have grown a lot.

Be careful not to file down the sides too much as this can weaken the natural nail.

Mirror the shape of the cuticle to get a natural looking nail shape that would suit you. File in one direction and not back and forth to help avoid separating the nail layers.

If you are filing and cutting toe nails always file straight across and not rounded.
